Handling it innovatively

Five innovative handles that are the result of a research and development effort involving renowned international architectural studios will be in the limelight at Dnd’s stand at The Big 5, following their successful unveiling at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, in April this year.

The leading Italian brand will be bringing these new handles along with bestselling products, in new finishes, with different options for customisation to Dubai, UAE, this month.

The five handles that are products of a research and development operation called ‘Handling Architecture’ led by Dnd’s artistic director Giulio Iacchetti and included the involvement of several famed designers from global architecture studios like Odo Fioravanti, Inga Sempé and Jaime Hayon.

The five internationally renowned architecture studios – Stefano Boeri Architetti, Alfonso Femia, Maurizio Varratta, Cino Zucchi and the studio 967 Arch – designed one handle each, says Vilma Martinelli, Dnd’s general director.

“The handle is an object that tirelessly requires placement in space with new aesthetic canons, new geometric lines, and new balances of forms. And these firms have achieved this objective perfectly,” says Martinelli.

Every handle accomplishes this in its own way. For example, the handle by Alfonso Femia transforms the relationship between the door and the handle itself, which conquers an unprecedented physical space not considered in the past. The handle by Stefano Boeri Architetti, on the other hand, totally reinvents the relationship with the plate.

“This is research, for us, and it is innovation in terms of the good design we are developing and spreading,” she adds.

Dnd is a brand by Italian FMN Martinelli, which was created in 1968 under the guidance of Angelo Martinelli, a passionate manufacturer of handles, knobs and high-quality doors, in Val Sabbia, in the province of Brescia, Italy.

Today, under the name Dnd, the company is run by Martinelli together with her children Pietro and Simona. Designers, artisans and suppliers are an active part of Dnd.

Dnd is exhibiting at Stand SS1D151, Sheikh Saeed Hall, at The Big 5.
