L&T wins top honours at Dubai’s Taqdeer Award

Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a major award at the third edition of Taqdeer Award for providing the best working conditions for labourers at its sites across the UAE.

Launched in 2016 by the Government of Dubai, Taqdeer Award aims to promote excellence in labour welfare practices and safeguard labour rights to increase productivity and efficiency across different sectors.

L&T is an Indian multinational engaged in technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial services with over $18 billion in revenues. The company operates in more than 30 countries worldwide.

A total of 31 winning companies were presented trophies by Shaikh Mansour bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum at a colourful ceremony held at The Meydan Hotel in Dubai last month.

On behalf of DK Sen, the whole-time director and senior executive vice president (infrastructure), the trophy was received by Deepak Nayak, the head of  PT&D UAE at Larsen & Toubro.

Maj-Gen Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, chairman of Taqdeer Award and deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), said companies were evaluated by more than 105 qualified assessors based on essential fundamentals such as labour policies, occupational health, cultural and work environment factors such as communication, creativity and innovation, rules and regulations as well as results based on labour perceptions and performance indicators.

The 31 winning firms were filtered down from 75 finalists out of an initial 425 applications, he adds.
