L&T wins major GCC power, infrastructure deals

India’s top engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) says its key subsidiaries have secured orders from prestigious clients in the GCC and India for its varied businesses.

The first one is from the UAE for the design, supply and construction of a 132-kV substation project along with associated 132-kV cabling works for one of the government utilities in the emirates, clinched by the construction arm of L&T, says the Indian construction giant.

Additional orders have also been won in ongoing projects in the Middle East, it states. The second is a major add-on order from an existing client in Qatar for an expressway which was secured by L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure business.

The L&T units also clinched various add-on orders through some existing projects in the Water and Effluent Treatment (WET) and Metallurgical and Material Handling (MMH) businesses.

EPC giant Bechtel reopens office in Al Khobar

Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), has re-opened its office in Al Khobar to meet the increasing demand for quality services in the oil and gas sector in the kingdom and the region.

Re-opening the Al Khobar office reaffirms Bechtel’s commitment to support the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, says a top official.

“We are here to support our Saudi Arabian customers and partners to deliver sustainable energy and chemical products to the world,” remarks Joe Thompson, senior vice-president and general manager for Bechtel’s Downstream and Chemicals business.

Bechtel’s people have engineered, managed and delivered some of Saudi Arabia’s signature projects, from Ras Tanura, the first oil refinery in 1943 to today’s major projects such as Riyadh Metro Project, The National Project Management, Operation and Maintenance Organization and the Jubail industrial city.

The group’s services span from initial planning and investment, through start-up and operations, says Thompson.

“Since 1898, we have helped customers complete more than 25,000 projects in 160 countries on all seven continents,” he adds.

Arabtec wins Emaar Misr’s Greek Village contract

Egypt-based Emaar Misr for Development has awarded a major contract to Arabtec Construction, a subsidiary of Dubai-based contractor Arabtec Holding, for the construction of an urban community ‘Greek Village’ at an estimated cost of E£1.608 billion ($100 million).

Emaar Misr is a specialist in developing and promoting real estate assets (high-class residential apartments, villas, trade centres) located in Egypt. The group also operates entertainment facilities and aparthotels.

The construction work is set to start immediately and the project is likely to be completed by 2022, says the Cairo-based developer, a subsidiary of Emirati developer Emaar.

The Greek Village project boasts 42 townhouses, 18 residential buildings, and seven bungalows in Marassi on the northern coast. Marassi is a 6.5-million-sq-m gated, master-planned destination resort along the Sidi Abdel Rahman Bay, located 132 km west of Alexandria.

Characterised by ornamental blue and white domes, the Greek Village features a unique architecture bringing authentic Greek accents to its townhomes and apartments. The white-painted village nesting at levelled heights offers breathtaking views of the lagoons and beautiful rooftop.

CGC secures Abu Dhabi island work

Kuwait-based Combined Group Contracting Company (CGC) said it has secured a KD19.9-million ($65.3 million) contract from Abu Dhabi-based Musanada to build internal roads and infrastructure at Ras Ghurab Island in the UAE emirate.

A major player in the field of contracting and engineering in the Arab World, CGC was set up in 1965 with its headquarters in Kuwait City. It has several key infrastructure projects to its credit including the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Bridge, Subiya Power Station, Sabah AlAhmad City (all in Kuwait); Al Reem Island (Sector 2 and 3), Officer’s Villa Project for Abu Dhabi Gate City and dualling of road from Al Shuaibah Roundabout to Al Qusais in Dubai (UAE); and North Residential and West Waterfront areas at Lusail City, Doha in Qatar.

The Ras Ghurab Island project is being developed by Musanada for the Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities. The project is set for completion by mid-2021.
