Monaco reveals plans for innovative pavilion

01 February 2020

Monaco, officially the Principality of Monaco, a sovereign city state located on the French Riviera in Western Europe, has outlined plans for its new pavilion for the upcoming Expo 2020 in Dubai.

One of the most densely populated sovereign states in the world, Monaco will showcase at the expo its world-renowned areas of expertise: art, gastronomy, hospitality, research, industry, new technologies and the luxury sector.

The Monegasque pavilion will express its identity and engage visitors through an exciting activity programme, including shows, conferences and exhibitions throughout the six-month duration of the Expo.

Albert Croesi, the managing director of Monaco Inter Expo (MIE), presented the Monaco Pavilion to partners and stakeholders from the worlds of politics, the economy and culture who will be visiting Dubai between October 20 and April 10 next year.

Several leading personalities attended a roundtable which provided an opportunity to get an update on the progress of construction work at the pavilion and the stages that are yet to come.

Giving an update on the project schedule, Croesi said the solar panels will be commissioned in April, followed by the interior fittings work in June and the commissioning day with visitors in mid-October 2020.

The construction of the Monaco Pavilion will involve more than 100 workers a day, with statistics drawn up including 22,000 man hours having been clocked so far; 108 cu m of concrete paving; 180 days of construction; and 300 sq m of solar panels with an installed capacity of 51 kWp.

The Monaco Pavilion comprises various stations: Penguins, Digital Transition, Portier Cove, Explorations, Tropical Corals, Interactive Bench and Art & Culture. It also hosts a temporary exhibition space that is open to public organisations and private companies.

“This space has been designed to allow them to present displays to thousands of visitors,” stated Croesi. “We’re talking about 50,000 visitors a week – that’s 1.25 million people expected to attend during the course of the Expo.”
