01 April 2020

Nearly 90 per cent of the work has been completed on the Comprehensive Disability Complex coming up in the A’ali region of Bahrain and is due for opening later this year, reported the BNA.

The facility, which covers an area of 20,105 sq m, will accommodate about 1,500 persons and 160 administrative staff members in the main building, stated the report, citing the Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan.

The complex, which has a built-up area of 17,642 sq m, boasts 10 separate buildings specialising in treating, educating and rehabilitating a group of the disabled, including those suffering from Down syndrome, the deaf, the dumb, the autistic, and those suffering from brain damage and mental illness.

“This is one of the biggest and most specialised complexes for the disabled in the Middle East region. It is a health facility that serves a major segment in the Bahraini society,” remarked Ali Humaidan.

The minister said the mega project, being funded by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development, was moving at a steady pace.

Already BD8.68 million ($23 million) has been allotted to cover the cost of construction, tools and equipment, furnishing and interior decor and provision of buses specially equipped for the disabled, said the BNA report.
