Dubai-based global trade enabler DP World says 35 per cent of the Dh140-million ($38.1 million) infrastructure work within Phase One of its Dubai Maritime City, has been completed and it is on target for completion in the first quarter of 2021 despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The project consolidates DMC’s status as a leading maritime services provider.
The main area of work has been on the deep services (water and sewer pipes), including surface water and foul drainage, as well as the development and maintenance of shallow utilities in the areas where the deep services have been executed, says DP World.
The Covid-19 pandemic has not caused any significant delay, says the developer, and the main contractor is fully mobilised to complete the project as set in its timeline since DMC infrastructure Phase One works were awarded in Q3 2019. All precautionary measures to ensure the safety of workers have been taken, and most site works were conducted by workers wearing masks and keeping safe distances, and with the continuous disinfection of the site, it states.
DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem says: “The work completed so far in the development of Phase One is a source of pride for all teams having achieved this milestone despite unprecedented challenges.
“The project, when completed, will provide DMC with an efficient and sustainable infrastructure to support a modern business community, and enable the vision of our sub-developers in a timely manner.”
The precinct is a mixed-use area which will comprise residential and commercial buildings, office towers and a promenade with breathtaking sea views, all within a vibrant community, states Bin Sulayem.
The deep infrastructure works along Sheikh Rashid Road (adjacent to sub-developer plots along the seaside) have been completed and backfilled. The focus now is on the structures of lift stations and a pump station.
Work on the DMC central pumping station for firefighting and the irrigation network is also under way. The project aims at delivering all major and minor infrastructure to support a modern community, such as main and secondary road networks, public parking areas for 340 units, energy-efficient streetlighting, potable water and sewage networks, stormwater drainage, fire-fighting and irrigation networks, telecom connectivity, a pump station and the maintenance of existing services which enhance the sustainability of the project. The site is connected by a bridge to Dubai’s major road network.
Phase One infrastructurre will integrate DMC with the Mina Rashid area that includes the QE2 Hotel, Marina views, Marina Cubes, Marinas, Marina Fitness 72 and other commercial and residential facilities.
