Empower’s DC building numbers up 6pc in 2020

01 April 2021

Empower says its diversified portfolio covers all the major sectors in Dubai, with the residential sector maintaining the top position in the list of its district cooling (DC) clients accounting for 64 per cent, followed by the commercial sector with 15 per cent.

The hospitality sector has increased its share from 13 to 14 per cent in 2020 and the healthcare sector has a share of three per cent. The other major sectors such as educational, industrial, and retail sectors together held the remaining four per cent, says the company.

Empower says over the one-year period, it had provided its services to many iconic projects in Dubai, most notably of which is Ain Dubai, the world’s tallest observation wheel that stands on the Bluewaters Island and also three stations in the Route 2020 of Dubai Metro.

The hospitality sector that has increased its share in company’s portfolio includes the major hotel projects such as the Avani Palm View Dubai Hotel & Suites, Adagio The Palm, 7 Palm and Paramount Tower Hotel, it states.

CEO Ahmad bin Shafar says: “Dubai’s urban boom has cemented the trends of the real estate development sector in adopting energy-efficient solutions to ensure greater protection of the environment and future generations’ resources. Nearly 70 per cent of the total electricity in the UAE is consumed for space cooling, hence the importance of adopting district cooling services solutions which saves up to 50 per cent of energy compared to conventional methods.”

“This runs in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to transform the emirate into a global center of green energy and green economy, and to strengthen its position to become the world’s lowest carbon footprint city,” he adds.
