Dubai-based Alec Engineering and Contracting says it has joined forces with Butec, a design-build industrial contractor, to set up a new venture that will target the region’s utilities, industrial and environmental sector-based projects.

A part of the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), Alec is a major construction company with related businesses operating in the GCC with a presence in Africa. Over the last 20 years, Alec says it has consistently evolved and grown to become a trusted partner for the execution of complex and iconic construction projects.

Since its foundation in Beirut in 1964, Butec has steadfastly built on its position as a leading contractor in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region in the fields of construction, engineering, logistics and related services.

In consolidating its assets, personnel and experience, the joint venture is anticipated to provide a highly competitive offering for projects seeking a cost-effective solution, while retaining the high quality and industry experience required for such undertakings, it adds.

On the new venture, Alec’s Managing Director Barry Lewis says: “Our decision to create a new JV with Butec stems from a wider industry move to collaborate more closely, particularly on major infrastructure projects, while pooling strengths to provide a faster, more efficient solution for clients.”

Alec has extensive experience in complex projects across diverse sectors including airports, retail, hotels and resorts, high-rise buildings, themed projects as well as construction management, design management, estimating, cost planning and procurement.

“In working with Butec, we are capable of adding significant value to the region’s future power, water and oil and gas initiatives,” he adds.
