Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works said steady progress is being made on the 789-bed maternity hospital coming up within the Al Sabah Health District in the Capital Governorate with over 65 per cent work already completed, according to an Arab Times report.
Being built on a 53,395-sq-m area, the healthcare facility boasts 460 patient rooms and 198 intensive care units for premature babies, in addition to 27 operating theatres, 58 delivery rooms, and 74 outpatient clinics, said the report.
Gulf Construction had in July 2021 reported that Kuwait-based multidisciplinary firm Pace was the design consultant for the Al Sabah Health District maternity hospital being developed by the Ministry of Public Works.
According to Pace, the design of the hospital has been done in such a way that it offers 70 per cent of the in-patient rooms a view of the adjacent bay and coastline.
Located close to the bay area, the new maternity hospital will be equipped with a massive sea wall (breakwater) along the 320 m shoreline as part of its green design.
In order to enhance circulation and movement across the medical complex, Pace has designed three air-conditioned pedestrian bridges connecting the existing hospital to the new buildings.
The hospital will be further integrated into the compounds of the Al Sabah Health Region in terms of coordination of infrastructure and the delivery of services and facilities, stated Pace.
The hospital, which has a built-up area of 347,656 sq m, boasts a multi-storey car-park with two basements, a ground floor, five podium levels and shaded roof parking.
