Notifier creates new voice evacuation system

01 MARCH 2001

NOTIFIER Fire Systems has introduced the XPIQ Quad intelligent audio transponder, which is a distributed multichannel voice evacuation system that is compatible with Notifier's complete line of voice evacuation intelligent fire alarm panels.

''The XPIQ is an integrated, multiple-channel audio amplification and distribution subsystem, remotely-controlled by a fire alarm control panel through a signalling line circuit,'' explains Leslie Craddock, director of corporate communications. ''As a multichannel audio system, the XPIQ is capable of playing up to four distinct audio messages simultaneously.

''By using a software program and internal switching capabilities, the XPIQ eliminates the need for relays and complex wiring during installation. As a result, it handles all the switching easily with less wiring.''

The XPIQ also includes a background music input terminal block, which allows the same speaker system to be used for background music, complete with a 10-position background music volume-control switch.

Other features include: up to four continuously supervised 25-watt amplifiers; four amplifier slots; two independent user-configurable tone generators either for riser back-up or as a main tone source; four Class B or two Class A firefighter telephone zones capable of distinguishing open, short and off-hook states; ground fault detection; and a serial port for configuration download from PC.

Notifier Fire Systems, which is part of Honeywell International's Fire Solutions Group, claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of commercial fire alarm systems. Notifier is headquartered in Northford, Connecticut, US, where it operates in a 302,000 sq ft state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Honeywell is a $24 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; power generation systems; specialty chemicals; fibres; plastics; and electronic and advanced materials.
