Portail opens new avenues
A new gate and fencing system is set to be launched on the regional market next month. The aluminium system aims to eliminate most of the problems inherent in traditional systems.

Installux Aluminium of France has developed an innovative gate and fencing system in response to demands made by home-owners for an attractive yet maintenance-free system for gates and fencing.
''The Portail system was developed to resemble traditional wrought iron but is fabricated entirely with aluminium. It uses aluminium extrusions and aluminium casting so as to ensure that the gate and fencing is maintenance-free, lightweight and easy to assemble and install,'' says Basim Al Saie, general manager of the Bahrain-based Installux Gulf, the regional office of the French group Installux.
A further benefit, according to him, is that the system facilitates many different designs and shapes to suit virtually any taste or requirement.
In addition, the Portail system eliminates many of the problems associated with wrought iron such as weight, maintenance and fabrication and assembly, Al Saie points out.
He elaborates: ''For hinged or sliding gates, weight is a major problem, especially when using an access control system. With the Portail system - as all the components are produced from aluminium - the gates are considerably lighter and much easier to open and close, using remote-controlled operators to enable access.
''Maintenance becomes a problem for wrought iron, especially in coastal areas. In the Portail system, anodised or powder-coated aluminium is used which is virtually maintenance-free, has a long-lasting finish, and offers an unrivalled appearance.
''Quick fabrication and assembly is another main feature of the Portail system. Fabrication tools have been developed to enable all the different types of gates and fencing to be fabricated quickly and with perfect precision.
''The time required to fabricate a gate or a fence is cut by almost 60 per cent, thus allowing for quick delivery and installation.''
Installux Gulf intends to launch the Portail gate and fence system on the GCC market during early April.
