Ingersoll-Rand Portable Power has launched a new range of single-stage and two-stage compressor modules in response to market demands.
The market for these products is expanding as more and more speciality packagers are using on-board compressed air in their applications, says a spokesman for the UK-based company.
''The new Ingersoll-Rand compressor modules also meet the needs of drill rebuilders and drill owners looking to replace or enhance the air compressor packages on their machines," he points out. ''All self-contained drills carry on-board compressed air for a variety of applications including hole cleaning when drilling blastholes in quarries and opencast mines. The compressor modules can be utilised in the rebuilding of most makes of drill on the market today.''
A wide range of single-stage and two-stage models are available, using well-proven Ingersoll-Rand airends and components and supported by the best optional extended warranty package in the industry, he says. There are seven single-stage compressor modules from 5.6 to 18.5 cu m/min (200 to 650 cfm) and nine two-stage models with outputs from 18.5 to 30.5 cu m/min (650 to 1,070 cfm).
He continues: ''At 30.5 cu m/min (1,070 cfm), the maximum capacity of the Ingersoll-Rand range of two-stage compressor modules, which incorporate the HR2 airend used on the company's drill products, compares very favourably with competitive ranges, where the highest output is only 27.1 cu m/min (950 cfm).
''Ingersoll-Rand compressor modules are easy to install with shaft or hydraulic drive available on all units. In addition, connections for oil, hydraulics and air are conveniently located on the drive end of the package or directly on the oil cooler through the side of the package. The units offer a full instrumentation panel and integral cooling, with excellent accessibility for routine maintenance work.
''All the airends in the compressor modules are backed by a standard two-year or 4,000 hour warranty. Alternatively, by using Ingersoll-Rand's Pro-Tec compressor fluid and engine oil and other genuine Ingersoll-Rand service and replacement parts, the owner can opt for the industry's very first optional five-year or 10,000-hour airend warranty, providing the peace of mind of full parts and labour cover. Provided these conditions are met, the five-year/10,000-hour warranty is free-of-charge and Ingersoll-Rand is unique among compressor manufacturers in offering this as a standard option.''
Ingersoll-Rand (IR) Portable Power has also launched a new range of large Cummins/CAT-powered portable compressors from 30 to 45 cu m/min, offering the low emissions required by the EU 'Stage 2' Emissions Legislation that came into force at the beginning of this year.
As well as higher free air deliveries, the new large compressors offer outputs up to 25 bar for applications where high pressures are critical such as quarry drilling, industrial processes and pipeline testing and commissioning, he says.
''The new large compressor family comprises four models - the 25 bar 25/300 and 25/330 and the 10 bar 10/370 and 10/455 - offering the most advanced systems on the market,'' the spokesman explains.
''In addition to the electronically-regulated 'common rail' diesel engines, other advanced, environmentally-friendly aspects of the new compressors include the fully bunded base and central drains as standard. The excellent environmental performance can be further boosted by the optional Instrument Quality (IQ) patented condensate burn-off system.
''The combination of more air and greater power provides for much higher productivity in drilling applications in quarrying and opencast mining, waterwell drilling, gas and oil exploration and trenchless technology. The high-pressure outputs also allow contractors to drill to greater depths.
''Like all IR Portable Power products, the new large compressors are covered by a full range of aftermarket products and services. Warranty and spare parts programmes offer a standard two years' cover, with a free-of-charge warranty option extending this to five years or 10,000 hours on the compressor powertrain, engine and airend.
''All service areas have been carefully designed for ease of inspection, maintenance and repair.
''In the new engines, electronic controls allow intelligent management of the combustion process by controlling the opening times of the fuel valves into the cylinder (that is, the quantity of diesel) and when the injection takes place (that is, the timing), both resulting in better combustion and power.''
''On this size of compressor, it is quite possible to precipitate out one tonne of condensate a day from the compression cycle. The IQ condensate burn-off system eliminates the need to dispose of the condensate, which would normally be removed via a drainage system in conventional installations.''
''The IQ system, combined with the bogey running gear and generous fuel tank capacity makes the new compressors a truly independent and mobile source of quality compressed air,'' he adds.
