At the pinnacles of excellence

Success is a not merely a goal to be achieved, but an every-day living process for Remco, one of the UAE's top MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) contractors, marking 12 years of dedicated service.

Real success lies in not just achieving, but staying at the pinnacles of excellence, says Hassan Abdul Hamid, the general manager and partner of Reliance Electromechanical Plumbing Contracting Company (Remco), one of the leading MEP contractors in the UAE.

"It is easy to achieve success, but the real test is how to sustain it for a long time," says Hamid, on the occasion of Remco's 12th anniversary of operations in the region.

He continues: "Quality, reliability and prompt service are the cornerstones of any successful business. But we have gone one step further in our quest to serve some of the city's most prestigious projects over the past 12 years. At the outset, we realised that the best way to win customers and secure their loyalty over the long term was through maintaining the highest standards of quality and service. Over the years, we have built close relationships with contractors and consultants.

"We are committed to giving our clients the best services in this field, backed by a team of highly-qualified and experienced personnel, including engineers, supervisors and technicians.

"Thus, Remco has firmly established itself as a leading supplier and installer of a wide range of mechanical and electrical services."

Established in 1990 in Dubai, Remco has grown to become one of the largest MEP contractors in the Gulf, with branch offices in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah.

It commenced operations with one person and today has a workforce of over 1,000 engaged in various civil projects, including high-rises, residential buildings, offices, malls, hotels, banks and villas.

Fire alarm and fire-fighting services are provided under the name of Safe Guard Safety and Security Engineering.

The company provides expert engineering services for the complete installation of electrical and mechanical systems including air-conditioning, ventilation, electrical lighting and power, lifts, sanitary and drainage, water distribution, low voltage and civil defence works for safety services alarm, fire detection, sprinklers, dry and wet risers.

All these services are fully supported by a design department and an engineering team utilising leading edge CAD (computer-aided design) software.

Remco is particularly concerned about the lowering of quality standards by competitors in the market as a result of falling prices, as more and more companies in the field chase a limited number of new projects.

"There are projects but, with too many companies in the fray, the market is witnessing drastic price reductions. When contracts are awarded on the basis of price alone, in the long term the clients will suffer from a lack of quality. My advice to other companies in the field is to avoid illogical competition, which results in poor quality work," says Hamid.

"Furthermore," he continues, "I believe companies should also be very careful while choosing their specialist engineers. I advise them to keep away from those without any experience. By experience I mean knowledge of the climatic conditions of the country they would be working in, because ignorance of this generally affects the quality of work."

Remco is driven by challenges and it adapts its operations to meet new technical advancements in MEP works in the construction industry. "We continually upgrade our MEP works and services to meet increasingly demanding specifications of our clients," Hamid says.

Quality assurance manager Mohammed Ali Haider says that Remco does not merely fulfil its contractual obligations but endeavours to exceed a customer's expectations.

"We handle each of our projects carefully, as we believe that prior and proper planning prevents poor performance. Each project is divided into many stages and we assign specialists for each stage to ensure everything goes as per our plan," he says. "Quality is evident throughout our operations, from supply, installation, testing and commissioning of jobs. Our quality systems are accredited to ISO 9001:2000."

Remco's workshop facilities, located in Rashidiya, are spread over 40,000 sq ft. Its duct workshop has a daily production capacity of 10,000 sq ft and is equipped with machinery capable of handling galvanised sheets in gauge sizes of up to 2.5 mm, which helps the company manufacture ductwork to various standards and sizes.

"Our workshop is equipped to manufacture pre-insulated duct to the highest standards," comments Haider. "Our state-of-the-art facilities are managed by qualified and experienced quality assurance and quality control personnel and we always upgrade systems to the latest technology."

"With the beginning of the new millenium, the electro-mechanical demands of modern industrial processes are becoming even more sophisticated. The expectations of the public and legislative are becoming more and more stringent," he says.

"Our company has acquired a good reputation, built up by professionalism and reliability," says Majid Jadallah, construction manager.

"Remco services include complete mechanical and electrical requirements from the design through to supply and installation to commissioning and thereafter planning preventive maintenance to ensure long life and efficiency of the plant and equipment,'' says Manmohan, assistant manager of maintenance department.

''Remco's quality policy is to fulfill the contractual obligation towards our customers and endeavour to exceed their expectation through a quality system based on ISO 9001:2000. Our quality objective is to achieve the Dubai Quality Awards,'' he says.

Remco also supplies and installs lifts from two well-established names: Young Jin from Korea and Sel-Al from Turkey. In addition, it is the sole distributor for Chigo window and split unit air conditioners (China), Comfortmaker air-conditioners (US), Top Cool decorative type split units (Kuwait), Kimmco fibreglass insulation (Kuwait), Anaf fire extinguishers (Italy), Wananda fire extinguishers (China), Delta hose reels and dry/wet riser systems (India), Curvent fire and smoke ventilator (South Africa) and CPF sprinkler systems (Italy). It is also a distributor for Carrier air-conditioners.
