Swiss firm Hawa's new sliding door system provides an appealing choice for users demanding elegance and top quality.

Switzerland-based Hawa AG has introduced the latest in its line of innovative sliding door hardware systems.
Hawa says it has developed an international reputation for providing planners, architects, craftsmen and end customers with integrated hardware systems which are of high quality and easy fitting with innovative engineering and design.
Hawa-Junior GP is the latest addition to the highly successful Hawa-Junior family, featuring a high-quality lock specially designed for all-glass doors, with matching plastic cover caps.
The system embodies a new concept for easy fitting of all-glass sliding doors with single-point suspension of panels weighing up to 120 kg each, the company says.
Hawa-Junior GP is compatible with glass from 8 to 12.7 mm thick, and facilitates hassle-free room design with ceiling-to-floor transparency. It also does not require labour-intensive masking panels, even with fixed glass, it says.
"These elegant and aesthetic solutions ideally complement the character of glass, and blend exceptionally well with any architectural style. Planners should feel particularly inspired by the possibilities," said a spokesman for Hawa.
"Carpenters and window-makers can especially look forward to problem-free, time-saving installation of Hawa-Junior GP and the Hawa-Toplock, a quality locking system specially designed for all-glass doors."
The company says the sliding door hardware system is available with panel weight ratings of 40, 80 and up to 120 kg, and is a further development of the popular Hawa-Junior. Top tracks, wheels and bumpers are all the same.
From a building constructional viewpoint, there are absolutely no changes for people who are already experienced with this hardware system, the spokesman says.
"The real innovation is the elegant, easily fitted single-point suspension - the Achilles' heel of every conventional sliding glass door," he says.
He continues: "The Hawa developers have done their homework here: all hardware system parts, including the lock, screw directly to the glass. Finally, an end to familiar woes like smeared silicone and trimming aluminium profiles.
"The technically sophisticated suspension is fitted from the interior, with attendant security benefits. Suspension bolts no longer have to be squeezed through the narrow gap between the top track and the door, but instead are easily accessible from the side. This allowed the Hawa development engineers to reduce headroom to just 2 mm.
"Users will also be grateful for easy access to the counter bolts and the vertical adjustment, which has also been moved to the interior side. At floor level, patented play-free guides ensure silent, positive running. They also effectively prevent doors from rattling in response to air movements."
Complementary Hawa-Junior GP Fixed Glass provides an elegant, consistent profile for all fixed glazing, says the company.
''And the fixed panels are on intimate terms with their movable neighbours: the minimum distance between fixed glazing and a sliding glass door is now down to just 12 mm - probably a record.
"While there is plenty of innovative Hawa engineering at work in the Hawa-Junior GP all-glass sliding door hardware system, it is kept out of sight.
"Elegant plastic cover caps conceal all glass fixing components. The caps allow colour design freedom and turn glass architecture into an eye-catching feature," he says.
Hawa supplies cover caps in a variety of finishes: stainless-steel effect, matt or polished chromium-plated, brass polished or untreated for coating in a suitable colour.
Similar colour-coordinated covers are also available for the Hawa Toplock, the new lock for all-glass doors.
The Hawa Toplock is available with a 22mm round cylinder or 17mm profile cylinder. It harmonises perfectly in shape and colour with the Hawa-Junior GP system. The lock is suitable for left or right-hand mounting, and fits easily into the glass cut-out.
"Toplock is also top in terms of security. It firmly secures all doors with its round or profile cylinder. An additional security rosette can easily be attached. It is also possible to secure double-panel doors by adding accessories such as counterplates," says the spokesman. "All-glass doors can easily be locked to walls with the Hawa Toplock system, thanks to a special wall-attachment profile with integrated slide-plate.
"Hawa Toplock is the right choice for all situations demanding elegance and top quality: shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, banks, airports, administrative premises, and sophisticated domestic interior design."
