The organiser of Big 5 2003 says the construction and contracting expo is set for its largest showing later this year.
The expo - slated to run from November 29 to December 3 - is to occupy all eight halls at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, said dmg world media.
Big 5 combines seven major trade shows under one roof. Featuring around 1,500 companies from 50 countries, it is aimed at contractors and specifiers, architects, engineers and buyers.
The 2002 edition drew 25,000-plus visitors, among them architects, engineers, contractors and other professionals. The exhibitors included national pavilions from major exporting countries, alongside local developers, contractors, importers and distributors.
Two sections at this year's show will receive special attention: Water technology and environment, and marble/stone and machinery.
The Big 5 each year features thousands of products and services for the water and environment industry while the marble and machinery sector saw strong growth last year. The building and construction section is the largest such event for suppliers of systems, components, materials, fittings and services. This is the main component of the Big 5 Show, covering about half of all available space and growing every year. The other sectors are air-conditioning; cleaning and maintenance; glass and metal; and bathrooms and ceramics. Around 100 international suppliers of bathroom products occupied a complete hall at the Big 5 in 2002.
''The ongoing construction boom in the Gulf is founded on an active public sector,'' says the spokesman for dmg world media. ''Private sector development is even more ambitious with the emphasis on hotel, leisure and commercial developments and apartment blocks. Architects, designers, consultants and contractors involved in these projects throughout the region are keen visitors to the Big 5. The show is the most important date for decision-makers throughout the GCC, the Middle East and Asia.''
