IT in spotlight at building tech expo

The forthcoming SAIE 2003, slated to be held in Italy later this year, will have some new features that mirror trends in the building world. The expo for building technologies is slated to run at the Bologna Exhibition Centre from October 15 to 19.

This year's event will have a larger exhibition space devoted to IT systems and service companies. In addition, a large number of precast technology experts will display machinery for building components.

A wide range of product offerings - 11 large sectors with more than 400 product categories - will be showcased in 18 halls and six external areas. In all, the expo will take up space of 210,000 sq m.

Last year's event drew 1,850 exhibitors, including 450 foreign companies from 29 countries. As many as 165,000 visitors came to the expo, of whom 40 per cent were building contractors, 38 per cent professionals and 19 per cent trade visitors.

SAIE, which stand for Salone internazionale dell'industrializzazione, is now in its 39th edition.

The other major product sectors at SAIE 2003 include: Climatec 2003, a specialist exhibition of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, control and water treatment; StrutturaLegno, technology for designing and building with wood; and building systems, components and subsystems.

Besides the exhibition, highly specialised conferences, seminars, workshops and focus meetings will be held during the five days of the show with a programme of more than 50 events.
