Power generation in focus

Dubai: Power generation will take centre stage at Middle East Electricity 2004 in Dubai next February, the organiser said. IIR Exhibitions says the event's new vertical power generation arena will plug into strong international interest in the region's energy sector.

The announcement comes in the wake of figures from the World Energy Council (WEC) forecasting the six GCC states alone will have to invest in excess of $150 billion to provide an additional 100 gigawatts of electricity capacity before 2020.

"Middle East Electricity will provide the world's biggest power industry players with a window of opportunity to tap into one of the fastest growing energy markets in the world," said Sarah Woodbridge, exhibitions director of IIR's power and energy division.

The Power Generation forum will be one of three vertical arenas at Middle East Electricity 2004. The other two will focus on the lighting industry and new and renewable energy.

IIR says more than 80 per cent of this year's exhibitors have confirmed their presence at Middle East Electricity 2004. With 14,000 sq m of space booked, at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC), the exhibition will be the largest in the event's history.

The show will again host the Middle East Electricity Ministers' Summit on the first day of an expanded three-day conference programme running alongside the exhibition. Middle East Electricity 2004, which has the support of the UAE's Ministry of Electricity and Water and the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, will take place from February 15 to 18.

Turkish firm to show ITS systems

London: Isbak, a leading specialist in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), says it will partner GCC associates to penetrate the Gulf's multi-billion dollar traffic and transport sector.

The Turkish company is hoping to seal associations and partnerships at the Gulf Traffic exhibition and conference to be held in Dubai in December. Isbak, which made its Middle East exhibition debut at the inaugural Gulf Traffic last year, is a platinum sponsor of this year's show, which is set to grow by 350 per cent.

``Our interest is a reflection of the speed at which this segment is evolving throughout the Middle East," said Derya Demir, Isbak's international business and marketing manager. ``Though many of the projects on regional drawing boards require the redevelopment of narrow city centres, the region has huge development plans, often on virgin land, where the very latest techniques and equipment can be utilised. Gulf Traffic will help us reach partners who influence the developers."

Isbak is planning to demonstrate its flagship ITS systems at Gulf Traffic, which will run from December 8 to 11 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
