Intex Universal installs quality products

01 June 2003

Sharjah-based Intex Universal has supplied and installed high-quality locally-manufactured partition systems and false ceilings at 13 buildings at the Knowledge Village within a span of five months.

"We started work on this fast-track project in early January this year and employed a workforce of 50 people to complete all internal partitions and corridors," says Dilip Villait, manager, sales and marketing.

"Normally a project of this size would take 18 to 24 months for completion but the Knowledge Village contract was done in 10 months time. We, therefore, had very limited time to execute the project," he points out.

The project was implemented in two phases, the first phase was completed in April and the second phase is due for completion shortly.

All the products supplied and installed at the project were manufactured locally using very high-quality materials. Gypsum accounts for some 90 per cent of the materials used. Other materials include steel.

"Based on the success we achieved at a number of other Dubai Internet City projects, we were nominated by Dubai Media City (DMC) for this project as they were confident that we could manage this prestigious fast-track job," he says.

Intex Universal has completed six projects for DIC and is currently working on other jobs for Tecom (Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone), including a three-storey residential project in DMC.

The company was established in Sharjah in 1992 and has a representative office in Dubai. It specialises in office interior decorations, demountable and relocatable partitions, false ceilings, contract vinyl wall covering, carpet tiles and flooring, venetian blinds, sanitary and plumbing with civil works.

"We undertake projects on a turnkey basis and can handle all designing, flooring, ceiling, carpentry, timber and joinery work," he says.

Intex Universal also hold agencies for overseas manufacturers of partitions and ceilings. The company represents Interfinish from GML, Belgium, and Owacoustc from Germany.

"We are currently working on new agencies, trying to expand with specialised and custom-made ceilings," he says.

Intex Universal, which started out as a two-man operation, now employs 120 people which includes 20 staff and 100 workers on site.

The company is approved by contractors for special jobs. Its clientele includes Dubai Municipality, Public Works Department and Ministry of Education, Tecom and Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (Jafza).

Some of the projects executed by Intex include Emirates Tower, Burj Al Arab, Fairmont, Convention Centre Hotel, Marina Towers, among other major projects.
