Cummins powers leading saudi press

01 September 2003

Six generation sets from Cummins are keeping the presses rolling at a leading printing and publishing house in Saudi Arabia.

General Contracting Company (GCC), the Saudi distributor for Cummins Power Generation, installed the gensets at the Al Madina Printing and Publication Company in Jeddah.
Al Madina Printing and Publishing is a leading publisher of national newspapers such as Al-Sharq and Al-Awsat.
GCC was contracted to project manage the installation of six DFGD gensets rated at 928 kw each. This installation provides the press with continuous prime power without any interruption and spinning reserve.

GCC has provided the press with sophisticated load demand and load-sharing facilities that help to ensure continuous power under any circumstances so that the press can keep on rolling even in the event of a mains power failure thanks to the installation of a Cummins Power Generation DMC 200.

GCC carried out a full turnkey project, which included transportation of the generators, loading and unloading them, and installing all piping work, meters, fuel pumps, float switches and controls, duct work, residential exhaust system, power cables and sound attenuators. Additionally, the contractor supplied two 50,000-litre bulk fuel tanks.
Saudi branch manager Engineer Taher Tag Eldin said: 'We were very pleased to be appointed to install critical prime power for an industrial sector. We were also very confident of the equipment mix included in the installation and were pleased to be able to offer Al Madina Printing a complete power solution.''
