Lufthansa cancels 900 flights as pilots go on two-day strike

BERLIN, November 23, 2016

Lufthansa's pilots have launched a two-day strike following an ongoing wage dispute, forcing the carrier to cancel close to 900 flights on Wednesday alone, said a report.

The pilot's union had initially called for a 24-hour strike. Following failed attempts by Lufthansa to halt the walkout, the union extended the the strike by another 24 hour, said a report on Daily Mail.

Lufthansa has cancelled 876 of a total scheduled 3,000 flights, which includes 51 long-haul flights. The strike, which is the 14th to hit the airline since 2014, has affected 100,000 passengers overall.

Details of Thursday's cancellations will be provided later today.

Flights by Lufthansa's other airlines, including Germanwings, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and Brussels Airlines, will not be affected, Lufthansa said.
