Work on Qatar’s Cultural Village is progressing, as the country prepares to become Arab Capital of Culture in 2010, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari was quoted as saying in local press reports.
The Cultural Village will be an addition to other historical and traditional buildings in Qatar such as Suq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Arts.
The village is located in the West Bay area of Doha over a total area of 99 hectares. It will reflect the heritage of Qatar through traditional architecture and feature a historical and cultural theme throughout. In addition to theatres, libraries, art galleries and museums, the Cultural Village includes an amphitheatre, heritage centres, and other academic facilities. The project is being constructed under Cansult Maunsell’s supervision and construction management and has a total contract value of $82 million.
