The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) last month awarded Saudi Arabia’s alfanar Construction – which is part of the alfanar Group – a contract worth SR444 million ($118.37 million) to build a 380 kV substation in west Makkah.
This project is intended to meet the growing demand for electricity in Makkah, especially the Holy Haram, where the substation will distribute electricity to new facilities in the area.
The substation will also be linked to several other substations, including the Aziziah South substation and the Shoaibah substation, and the 380 kV overhead transmission lines in Makkah.
The project is to be completed in 29 months.
alfanar Construction has undertaken several major projects for the SEC across the kingdom, with a combined value of more than SR3 billion ($799 million).
One of these includes the 380/110/13.8 kV Al Kandarah substation in Jeddah with a contract value nearing SR500 million ($133 million).
alfanar is also involved in the expansion of Sharourah power plant, adding three generating units with a total power capacity of 51 MW at a value of more than SR380 million ($101.3 million). In addition, the company has been awarded the construction of 380 kV substation connecting Rabigh 2 power plant’s first phase worth SR505 million ($134.63 million).
