Oman’s Geosol Engineering has been successfully using Bulroc down-the-hole (DTH) drilling equipment on foundation piling contracts.
At a project in Barr Al Jissah near Muscat, Geosol had to construct micro piles through rockfill to depths of 8 m then a further 4 m through soft limestone (200 kg per sq cm-20.0 Mpa), at an average drilling time of 20 minutes.
Working with a Soilmec 401 rig, Geosol general manager Majd Abou Hilal chose the Bulroc Hyper 81 DTH hammer together with the Bulroc ODS235 continuous casing system to install 273-mm and 288-mm diameter casings.
At another project in Nimr, Bulroc hammers were used to drill 10-degree angled holes through very hard limestone (1,000 kg per sq cm-100 Mpa). The total drilling time was around two hours and included assembly of the casings and installation of the rat and mouse hole.
