A SEARCH is on for unique projects and developments that contribute not only towards architectural excellence and but remain sensitive to the environment.
The projects will be awarded this year’s Middle East Real Estate Awards at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, the international real estate and investment development event, being held this month (April 19 to 22) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
“Judges are looking for projects that demonstrate innovative design and development concepts combined with architectural excellence and functionality,” says Mark Goodchild, exhibition director for Cityscape Abu Dhabi and the Middle East Real Estate Awards. “As well as quality of design, construction and visual appeal, the judges are looking for compatibility with neighbouring land uses and sensitivity to environmental issues,” he says.
The awards cover six categories with entries, in some cases, separated into projects already complete or future projects.
There will be a Best Sustainable Development Award for innovative use of new materials, products or construction methods, which deliver energy-efficient, high-performing green buildings.
Another will be the Commercial and Retail Project Award where developments will need to show world-class standards of design, safety, security, energy efficiency and innovation. Similar criteria will apply to the Residential Project Award.
The Mixed-use Project Award seeks a development with a strong design, sensitivity to the surrounding environment and urban community as well as showing flair and intelligence in relation to the present and future needs of the community. The Best Urban Design and Master Planning Award will go to an outstanding project that best encourages or promotes a sense of place or significantly benefits an entire neighbourhood, town, city or region.
Another award will recognise world-class and distinctive waterfront development maximising water as a resource.
