NEXT year’s Power-Gen Middle East, considered the region’s premier conference and exhibition for the power generation, transmission and distribution and water industries, will be held in Qatar, for the first time in its nine-year history.
The 2009 event was held in February in Bahrain.
Around 120 exhibitors from more than 50 countries are expected to attend. The relocation of the event, which will be organised at the Qatar International Exhibition Centre, Doha, from October 4 to 6, is in response to the growth and vitality in Qatar and following the huge success of the event over the past eight years.
Qatar’s power generation is expected to increase by a 193.5 per cent before 2018, one of the highest in the Mena (Middle East and North Africa) region. The country will account for 1.85 per cent of Middle East and Africa regional power generation by 2013, having a broadly balanced market throughout the period. According to forecasts, the country will experience an increase in generation to 1,609 TWh by 2013, representing a rise of 44 per cent between 2007 and the end of the period.
Power-Gen will be co-hosted by Qatar Power, majority owned by Qatar Electricity and Water Company and owners of the Ras Laffan B IWPP (independent power and water project).
Speaking about the event, Glenn Ensor, director of events at PennWell, organiser of the show, says: “The partnership between PennWell and Qatar Power highlights the importance of Power-Gen Middle East as a platform of exchanging ideas and expertise with the participants and attendees of this conference and exhibition. Power-Gen Middle East 2010 will bring together industry experts to take a look at the power and water challenges in the region, and draw out new solutions to overcome these challenges.”
Furthermore, the Power-Gen Middle East conference is a key forum for industry leaders to discuss a range of topics, from the region’s energy markets and environmental challenges to power plant generation and desalination technologies and operating and servicing plants. Government bodies, companies and consultants from the power generation, transmission and distribution and water industries will be presenting their new developments, technologies and case studies at the conference, which will run alongside the exhibition.
