Al Mafraq hospital contract awarded

01 April 2011

MURRAY & Roberts, in conjunction with the Al Habtoor Leighton Group, has been awarded a Dh2.2 billion ($600 million) contract for the construction of Al Mafraq Hospital for Seha, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company said.

The hospital is designed to accommodate both the current operational demand of the existing hospital and the expected increase in demand generated by population growth. It will eventually contain 739 beds and provide 139 outpatient clinics and would serve as a centre of excellence in thoracic and orthopaedic surgery and burn treatment in the emirate, Murray & Roberts said.

It added that the Al Habtoor Leighton/Murray & Roberts joint venture was awarded the project based on technical, financial and time commitment following a rigorous pre-selection process where several contractors were invited to bid.

The new facility would triple the examination and treatment rooms of the existing hospital – up to 60 from the original facility’s 19. The outpatient clinic’s capacity would also be increased 58 per cent, to 139 rooms from 88. It will be spread across 245,000 sq m and will accommodate underground parking facilities for 1,300 vehicles.

Seha chairman Saif Bader Al Qubaisi said: “We are pleased to announce that construction works have commenced in our new hospital in Mafraq. The facility will be equipped with modern facilities and the latest equipment to ensure world-class specialised healthcare.”
