Composites summit set for singapore

01 August 2011

DATES have been announced for the third ICS (International Composites Summit), following the record attendance at the JEC Second ICS (International Composites Summit) held in Paris, France, last March.

The third edition of ICS will take place at JEC Asia 2011, which will be held from October 18 to 20 at Suntec in Singapore.

JEC Second ICS held during the JEC Composites Show (March 29 to 31) set records for delegate attendance, registering an increase of 25 per cent. The 12 conferences and forums drew 2,000 attendees coming from throughout Europe and from as far away as Russia, China, Japan, Korea and the US. The focus was on the automotive and global carbon fibre market.

Among the topics discussed was “Widening the Use of Structural Composites” for construction and civil engineering. During the ICS, the JEC Group also introduced brand new and very successful cross-industry conferences and forums, including nano materials (Enhancing the Mechanical and Physical Properties of Composites) and Non-destructive Testing in partnership with Cetim.

Also during the event, the JEC Group launched for the first time in Paris an economic conference, where well-known experts provided a global overview of the composite market worldwide.

JEC Show Paris, which covered an area of 48,500 sq m, attracted 1,122 exhibiting companies and 29,867 visitors from around 100 countries, compared to 27,500 visitors in 2010. About 70 per cent of the visitors came from abroad.

JEC 2011 was marked by a significant economic upturn for composites, with many product launches and contract deals announced during the show. Frederique Mutel, JEC president and CEO, commented: “Based on collected data, the cumulative returns were at around €673 million ($950 million). Around 65 useful contacts (with follow-up orders) were acquired on average per exhibitor, with a declared payback period of 20 months.”

At the show, dates were also announced for JEC Show Americas, which will be held from November 7 to 9 next year in Boston.

The JEC Group, which brings together all of the sector’s stakeholders, is the only organisation to coordinate a network of 250,000 professionals, from universities, industry and research all around the world.
