Flooring firm flock to Domotex Middle East

01 August 2011

WITH just six weeks to go before the kick-off to Domotex Middle East, preparations are in full swing for the sixth edition of the region’s annual showpiece event, dedicated to the floor-covering industry.

Exhibitors from around the globe will gather to showcase a range of innovative flooring solutions at the show being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 12 to 14. The strong re-emergence of the construction sector across the region represents a tremendous source of potential business opportunities for the entire spectrum of carpets and floor-covering categories.

“The Middle East remains a key market for floor-covering providers around the globe. The region’s construction industry is due to deliver projects worth $500 billion by 2015, providing a huge opportunity for the floor-covering sector,” says Angela Schaschen, managing director of Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch, the organiser of Domotex Middle East.

Commenting on trends in the industry, she says: “Colours are very much in demand with decorators this year. There used to be a focus on natural shades for flooring but now the trend is moving towards bright and bold colours.

“Environment-friendly products are set to be a key trend in 2011 and beyond. Both globally and in the region, there is a growing awareness of the environmental impact of the materials used for floor-coverings, from the energy it takes to make a product, and the energy-saving benefits green products can provide, to biodegradability when disposing of the materials.

“With asthma and allergies on the rise, carpet manufacturers worldwide have addressed this issue by incorporating antimicrobial material into carpet cushions to provide effective control of allergy triggers.”

The show includes exhibitors from all corners of the globe including Chile, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Turkey, Japan, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, in addition to high-profile regional exhibitors, who are looking to extend their network not only within the Middle East region but also to Africa, CIS, Central Asia and beyond.

High-profile regional exhibitors include Platinum sponsor Al Abdullatif Industrial Investment, and Gold sponsor Mada Carpet Company from Saudi Arabia, one of the region’s largest manufacturers of machine-made carpets and the UAE’s largest manufacturer, Abu Dhabi National Carpets.

Among the international exhibitors at Domotex Middle East will be Balta from Belgium, one of the world-leaders in contract floor-coverings. Luz Mendez from Chile will be showcasing her unique high-end carpet and rug textile designs, which are characterised by sharp, light and welcoming designs and distinguished by a particular use of colour to help create a serene and clear environment.

The Creative Flooring area of the show, supported by Platinum sponsor Wickham Hardwood Flooring and product sponsors Balta, Estillon, Roberts and Haima, gives visitors the opportunity to see innovative floor-laying techniques first-hand.

“With over 81 per cent of visitors confirming a buying agenda at the 2010 show, Domotex Middle East 2011 provides the ideal platform for suppliers to expand their network in the region,” Schaschen said.
