A TOTAL of 3,349 visitors attended the 14th edition of Saudi International Building and Construction Exhibition (Buildex 2012) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, which provided an important platform for companies to showcase their products, services and expertise in the field of construction.
More than 400 exhibitors showcased their products on an exhibiton space of 3,545 sq m in addition to an outdoor area of 300 sq m. Organisers International Exhibition Services (IES) and Dhahran International Exhibition Services (DIEC) said the event, held from March 18 to 21, enjoyed an ideal location in the booming Eastern Province, home to mega projects such as the $27-billion Jazan Economic City and the expansion of Jubail Industrial City, which is seeing an investment of $3.8 billion.
“Saudi Arabia, as the construction leader in the Gulf area, has earmarked $385 billion on roads, airports and energy projects for the five-year period from 2010 to 2014, making events like Buildex even more important for exhibitors who attended the show from across the world, including countries such as Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Turkey and the UAE,” said a spokesman for the organisers.
Mega projects in the building and construction sector in Saudi Arabia, which have been announced and currently under way include the $10-billion Saudi Aramco Yanbu Export Refinery Project covering an area of 5.2 million sq m; the $3.8-billion Jubail Industrial City spread over an area of 150 million sq m; the $27-billion King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh on an area of 168 million sq m; the $7-billion Knowledge Economic City in Madinah; and $27-billion Jazan Economic City in Jazan.
