Qatar Rail has completed 77 per cent of the work on its ambitious Doha Metro Project and is on track for the launch of Phase One Red Line on October 31, reported The Peninsula, citing a top official.
This includes 81 per cent of the construction work and 59 per cent of the works related to installation of various systems, revealed Abdulla Al Subaie, the managing director and chief executive of Qatar Rail.
He was speaking at a workshop organised by the General Directorate of Civil Defence in collaboration with Qatar Rail on the safety of Doha Metro at its headquarters.
On the passenger handling capacity of Doha Metro stations, Al Subaie said the main Msheireb station will have the highest capacity to handle 100,000 passengers per hour.
The capacity of other stations ranges from 60,000 and 30,000 passengers per hour.
Doha Metro Red Line, also known as the Coast Line, runs for about 40 km from Al Wakrah in the south to Lusail in the north. It also connects Hamad International Airport at Terminal One to the centre of the city.
This line has 18 stations with the Legtaifiya Station allowing passengers to transfer over to the Lusail Tram, said the report.
