Setting the Benchmark in Construction’ is the slogan the organisers have chosen for this year’s Saudi Build, an event that promises opportunities for the construction sector in the Middle East’s largest market.

More than 520 exhibitors are expected to converge at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre this month (October 7 to 10) to showcase their latest and innovative  offerings over 18,000 sq m of exhibition space. This year’s event will feature nine country pavilions and 34 participating countries.

The event, now in its 31st edition, will this year feature the inaugural Saudi Build Conference which will comprise more than 18 sessions.  Also held concurrently with Saudi Build for the first time are Saudi Build Interiors and Saudi Building Tech, as well as the popular Stone Tech, and Saudi Build PMV Series.

According to a spokesman for Riyadh Exhibitions Company, the organiser, the Saudi construction sector will witness a significant growth in the coming few years as vast construction projects, especially involving social and transport infrastructure, continue to develop.

“In fact, the Saudi construction sector is currently valued at SR2,250 billion ($600 billion), with infrastructure projects alone amounting to SR1,312.25 billion. Ongoing projects constitute 82.4 per cent of overall construction activities, reflecting the continued growth and development in the sector,” he says.

In addition to providing a valuable platform to showcase new products and services, the spokesman says the event will prove beneficial for visitors and exhibitors to expand their network of contacts and potential clients in Saudi Arabia, and help them generate new leads and build quality new business relationships.

It will also allow them to interact with key industry leaders and engage with them, demonstrate their commitment to the Saudi market, and increase their knowledge of the local construction market.

Saudi Build is expected to be visited by members of the government and public authorities, local municipalities, semi-governmental and holding companies, project owners, investors, engineering consultants, real estate developers, contractors, services companies, construction equipment suppliers, procurement specialists, international associations, and academia.

Nearly 17,000 people visited the event last year.

Being conducted alongside the exhibition, the inaugural Saudi Build Conference is a unique opportunity for key governmental stakeholders, international trail-blazers, regional market-leaders and innovative technology providers to meet, network, and help set the stage for the future of construction in Saudi Arabia.

Some of the core themes for the conference include ‘An overview of the key government plans for achieving Saudi Vision 2030’, ‘Enabling Foreign Investment into the Saudi Market’, ‘Vision 2030’s Impact: A look at Saudi Arabia’s Mega-Projects, such as the Neom City, Red Sea Project and Qiddiya Entertainment City’, ‘The Effects of Emerging Technologies and Smart Cities on the Construction Sector’, ‘Buildings of the Future – 3D Printing Shaping the Future of Construction’, ‘Empowering Innovation in the Leaders and Workforce of the Future’, ‘Construction of 6 smart cities by 2025’, ‘Virtual Design and Construction Applications in Infrastructure Projects’, and ‘Interior Design as a Cornerstone of Great Buildings’.

Germany’s pavilion at the show had 19 participating companies occupying over 400 sq m space. The majority of these companies were regular and long-time exhibitors at Saudi Build, according to Caner Yildirim, project manager of Messe Stuttgart International, the organiser of the Germany Pavilion.  He added that 2018 marked the 25th consecutive year that the German pavilion was participating at the show (see Page 76).

Making its debut with a pavilion at the event last year was Holland, which reported that the show provides a good opportunity to expand the country’s business.

Meanwhile, Hussam Al Roqi, marketing director of Al Jazeera Paints, a regular exhibitor Al Jazeera Paints said:  “Saudi Build provides a meeting point for exhibitors and visitors to connect them in one place and to have business agreements and trade deals done easily and this is what we achieved in our regular and continuous participation at the show.”
