Licences for 222 building projects were issued by the Sharjah Municipality during February. They included 33 multi-storey buildings, 72 apartment blocks, seven mosques and storehouses, 70 for expansion of existing buildings, 23 for amendments of building licences and 17 for changing contractor or the consultant at the request of the relevant party.
The buildings are in Sharjah, Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hosn and Al Dhaid.
The municipality is ensuring that construction is being executed according to approved plans.
Glasswall to go on show
Dubai: Gibca Furniture Industry Company, the international contract location furniture manufacturer, will launch "Glasswall" at a premier hotel supplies exhibition in Dubai.
The UAE-based company has joined an international line-up of exhibitors taking part in The Hotel Show, being organised by event management and marketing specialist Streamline Marketing, at the Airport Expo Dubai from May 19 to 21.
The acoustically-rated movable glass partitions, used in restaurants, hotels, office blocks, banks and shopping malls, is a new concept in space division, says a Gibca spokesman. It maintains acoustic privacy while providing a transparent barrier to secure and divide space. The glass may be tinted or decoratively glazed according to specifications.
DCCI membership doubles
Dubai: Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) membership, representing the building and civil construction sector has nearly doubled since 1997, it was revealed.
The sector has more than 5,300 members, accounting for more than eight per cent of the chamber's total membership, up from 2,818 six years ago, a statement says.
Launching the Dubai Building and Civil Constructions Business Group, the latest addition to a series of Dubai-based business groups set up with the legal backing of DCCI recently, Obeid Humaid Al Tayer, president of DCCI, says: "The chamber has developed a new business strategy to keep pace with the demands of Dubai's rapidly developing private business sector."
Tabreed expands in Gulf
Dubai: The National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) is setting up new ventures in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Talks with potential partner for the new firms - Tabreed Qatar and Tabreed Saudi - are in the final stages, the company says.
Other joint venture opportunities have been sought in Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain (see page 119).
