Turkish firm organises major Sudan expo

A major Sudanese construction expo is to be held this December in the country's capital Khartoum.

The SudanBuild 2003 International Construction Technologies and Building Materials Fair is being organised by Forum Fairs and Promotions, a leading Turkish organiser of international fairs.
The five-day fair, supported by the German company Internationaler Messe and Ausstellungsdienst (Imag), in association with the Sudanese exhibition company Sudan Free Zones and Markets and the General Organisation for International Exhibitions and Fairs (GOIEF), a subsidiary of the Egyptian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, will be held from December 10 to 14  at the Khartoum International Fair Area.
The promotional activity for the fair will be carried out not just within the country, but also in the neighbouring African countries through the medium of television, radio, newspaper and billboards.
The fair will feature Sudan's ambitious plans for growth and launch a major reconstruction drive.
The country, the biggest in Africa, ranks second in the continent in terms of growth and is perceived as the fastest growing country, next only to China.
''The reconstruction programme, will include the laying of water supply lines and highways, and the setting up of refineries and dams. Funds required for the activities will be used from the increasing oil revenues of the country,'' says Sudanese Minister of Foreign Trade Abdel Hameed Musa Kahsa.
The fair, which will be visited by officials and businessmen from the neighbouring countries, will be organised in an area of 10,000 sq m and will include five halls and an open area of 1,500 sq m. It will focus on professionals seeking business for the first two days and will be open to general public for the remaining days.
SudanBuild 2003 will be open for visitors between 10 am and 1 pm; and 5 pm and 10 pm.'
General director of Forum Fairs and Promotions Bilgin Aygul says: 'The fair has will serve as a common platform for the investors and buyers.''
Round table meetings, conferences and seminars will be organised at the fair, with the participation of the members of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Arabian Investors Association.
The fair will seek to organise investment opportunities concerning the construction sector. It will also provide business opportunities to the regions of Egypt, Chad, Ethiopia, Central Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Libya.'
