01 September 2003

Aurkey's Seyas, an engineering and consultancy firm, which has been offering a wide range of multi-disciplinary services in Turkey, and the countries of North Africa, Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia and the Eastern Europe, plans to expand its market by enhancing its strengths.

With more than four decades of experience in construction, the firm has done extensive research and initiated the use of epoxy resin grouts, carbon-fibre-reinforced-polymer-laminates and textiles in strengthening concrete structures especially in earthquake-prone areas.
The firm has also introduced the steel cassette wall cladding systems as an alternative to the conventional steel frame and trapezoidal or corrugated steel panels.
''The implementation of this system, dependent on the type of structure, has proved itself to be both a time and money saver,'' a Seyas spokesman says.
Through its offices in Turkey and project offices in Albania, Tajikistan and Afghanistan, Seyas offers pre-project planning, support, project preparation, construction phase services, post construction services and legal support services.
The firm also has vast experience in projects related to agriculture and rural development; administrative, commercial and educational buildings; educational and health institutes; social and cultural developments; sports facilities, construction industry development; energy, environment and waste and water management; habitation and housing development; industry, tourism, recreation, entertainment, transportation and telecommunication; urban and regional development, and special studies and research.
Seyas has been involved with some of the major projects within Turkey, both for the state and the private sector. As sub-consultant to Swanke Hayden and Connel of the US, the firm has provided the architectural design for the Is Bank Towers in Istanbul. The project has three blocks including a 43-storey tower, which is the tallest in Turkey.
The company has also completed work on the Marks and Spencer store in Istanbul, in association with Lewis and Hickey of the UK. The other projects include, Karum Shopping Mall in Ankara and the Arap Turk Bank in Istanbul.
Seyas has also been involved in the construction of several thousand housing units for the government and the private sectors.
A few of the industrial contracts undertaken by the company include Alarko Carrier in Gebze, Kocaeli; Coca Cola at Istanbul, Honda at Sakerpinar, Ipek Kagit-Georgia Pacific Tissue production plant complex at Yalova and the Antalya Airport Terminal building.
Formed in 1959 and incorporated in 1974, Seyas started its international operations in North Africa in the 80s.
