Faustig creates crystal wonders

01 March 2005

Kurt Faustig, famous for producing the largest chandelier in the world, will be displaying its new classical chandeliers at the upcoming Lightstyle Gulf Light, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from May 15 to 17.

The largest crystal chandelier – as certified by the Guinness Book of Records, adorns the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Oman.
“The chandelier is a veritable masterpiece, far beyond anything comparable in terms of both size and design,” says a spokesman for Faustig. “We developed and made use of the latest three-dimensional presentation and construction techniques for the project. It was all a perfect fit – down to one-tenth of a millimetre.
”The frame was made from stainless steel to keep it statically stable and free from rust, and then encased in gold-plated brass profiles. All the other metal components are of brass, bronze and seawater-resistant aluminium (to save weight) – all of it naturally plated with 24-carat gold and stove-enamelled. Despite its location near the sea, in a hot and damp climate, the chandelier will literally last for ever. Only the finest crystal was used – Swarovski Strauss.
“The chandelier even contains a staircase and platforms – for maintenance purposes,” he adds.
It measures 8 m across and 14 m high.  The chandelier has 1,114 lampholders and weighs 8,500 kg.
The German family-owned firm has been manufacturing its unique selection of world-class crystal chandeliers for 45 years now.
