Following its success with the Big 5 and Index exhibitions in the Middle East, dmg world media Dubai has set its eyes on co-organising the Icon (India International Construction and Contracting Exhibition) and III (Interiors International India) in India, which run from April 26 to 28.
“The two exhibitions have already received international response with booked national representations from Italy, Korea, China, Taiwan, Belgium, Greece and the UK, as well as individual companies from the Gulf countries, Iran, Thailand and Malaysia have been confirmed,” says a spokesman for dmg world media Dubai.
Icon is supported by the Northern Chapter of the Indian Institute of Architects, which will bring an international architect for a keynote speech targeted at its senior practising members, while III is supported by the Delhi Chapter of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers which is holding its annual meeting at the exhibition, with another VIP speaker targeting senior architects and interior designers.
Icon has also drawn support from Confederation of Construction Products and Services, the All India Brick and Tile Manufacturers Association, Indian Association of Structural Engineers, the Indian Ceramics and Ceramic Tile Association, the Builders Association of India and the National Council of Cement and Building Materials.
“With a population of over one billion and economic growth expected to be nine per cent per annum until 2010, India is fast emerging as the place to do business. Growth in the $51 billion construction sector runs at eight per cent per annum,” the spokesman comments.
Speaking on the market, he says: “India’s construction sector is likely to witness a cumulative spend in the region of $450 billion in the seven years from 2004 to 2010. Last March, a total of 568 projects were under way with a value of $55 billion. The latest trend in real estate development is being seen in Delhi, and in particular in the suburb of Gurgaon which is emerging as an international city with world-class residential, commercial and retail complexes. Recent developments include Uniworld City, a complex of apartments and town houses where three new projects are planned – Uniworld Resorts, Uniworld Gardens and the $200 million Nirvana Country spread over 300 acres. Other examples are Ambiance Island ($200 million) and the 1,500 apartment Vatika project, spokesman continues.
“On the commercial and retail front, activity is equally buoyant. The Cushman and Wakefield report has identified 24 new shopping malls in India reaching completion in the next few months. “This frantic development in the subcontinent bodes well for Icon and III. Both exhibitions are uniquely positioned as they will attract high-quality decision-makers. A dedicated visitor promotion will invite builders, contractors, surveyors, specifiers, trade delegates, architects, planners, designers, importers, wholesalers, retailers, government officials, public sector officials, developers, investors and engineers, using personal invitations, direct mail, email, telemarketing and the unique ‘Expoconnect’ matchmaking programme,” he concludes.
