Trimble has recently introduced the Spectra Precision Laser LP20 and LP40 self-levelling laser pointers, which have been designed to handle a wide range of both interior as well as exterior construction applications, according to the US-based company.

“Both these rugged laser layout tools offer several benefits to general and interior contractors, electricians, plumbers and a variety of tradesmen through delivering cost-effective consistency and reliability, and enabling users to increase productivity and cut costs,” he adds.
The dual-beam LP20 projects one beam upwards and the other down, up to 30 m, making it ideal for one-person plumb point transfer. A self-levelling mechanism ensures that positioning is accurate.
The LP40, also self-levelling, projects four beams up to 30 m – with one beam pointing up while another points down to create a plumb-up and plumb-down reference. The other two beams are offset at 90 degrees to each other, pointing out horizontally to create level and square reference points, says the spokesman.
A special package version of the LP40, the LP40-1, is also available and has all the features and benefits of the LP40 plus a complete set of universal mounting accessories packed in a compact hard carrying case.
Powered by four AA batteries, the units are compact and easy to use. The LP20 and LP40 are designed as portable tools with convenience as well as durability in mind. They can survive a drop of up to 1 m on concrete and feature IP54 moisture sealing and built-in over-moulding, making them ideal for daily jobsite conditions, says the spokesman. The units attach to the user’s belt with a custom pouch, making them instantly available as needed with no set-up or levelling time required.
“The new Spectra Precision Laser LP20 and LP40 laser pointers are rugged and useful,” says Pat Bohle, division vice president for Trimble’s Construction Instruments Business. “The durability of the laser pointers means that repairs should be minimal which is important to contractors who need their tools on the jobsite. In addition, the units incorporate intuitive operator controls so there is virtually no training required. And the self-levelling capability may prevent re-work, which commonly results from using manually-levelled lasers that frequently drift off level. The LP20 and LP40 are affordable products that should save users time and money,” he adds.
Being versatile, the LP20 and LP40 are capable of handling any interior or exterior horizontal, vertical or plumb positioning application – anywhere that a carpenter’s level or plumb bob would normally be used. Applications include ceiling and drywall installation, framing of doors and windows, counter-tops, cabinets, levelling, plumb, squaring and layout, among others. The bright beam makes these products suitable for any level of lighting, from dim to bright, he adds.
Both the new Spectra Precision Laser LP40 and LP20 laser pointers are now available through the wide dealer network of Trimble Construction Instruments.
