Hilti launches new-fastening system

Swiss construction equipment specialist Hilti has launched a new fastening tool that promises to enhance productivity and offer enormous savings both in terms of time and money.

Global construction systems provider Hilti has developed a new lightweight automatic fastening tool that facilitates overhead applications.

In developing the new DX 351, weighing only 2.2 kg, Hilti has come up with the perfect sequel to a worldwide success story, says Mutaz Al Maani, market segment manager at the Hilti Regional Office for Middle East and South Asia. Incorporating all the advantages of its highly-esteemed forerunner, this handy tool offers a host of additional new features.
“Both the mechanical and electrical trades have a high percentage of overhead applications and the light weight and small dimensions of the DX 351 together with the already available pole tool will provide a very suitable solution for these customer groups,” he adds.

Luxury class
Designed and developed for interior finishing applications as well, the new DX 351 fastens systems on both concrete and steel at high speed and with minimum effort, and has proven its capabilities, especially when working overhead, and in repetitive fastening applications, according to Al Maani.
“Its secret lies in a unique combination of innovative specially-designed nails and the use of propellant cartridges of a lower power level. These enhancements have made a considerable reduction in recoil and noise, resulting in greater fastening comfort and significant improvement in efficiency,” he explains.

Intelligent nails
In an effort to reduce the energy required to drive a nail, the engineers at Hilti have optimised the nails thereby ensuring the same high fastening quality even with a shank of reduced diameter. DX 351 can also be used as a magazine tool, whereby collated nails can be used in serial applications such as using metal straps to fasten conduits or air ducts.
“These new nails permit the use of special white cartridges that provide the lower driving energy required to attain reliable fastenings of the highest quality. The advantages to the user become immediately obvious: perfect fastenings with significantly less effort,” states Al Maani. “As every contractor knows from experience, the system offers less stress and fatigue when working and results in greater progress and an increase in cost efficiency.”

Fast magazine
“Its simple working principle and innovative nail magazine makes the Hilti DX 351 a pleasingly easy-to-operate, fully-automatic fastening tool. Using the fastening tool, installation work in interior finishing can be speeded up considerably because of the handy strips of 10 nails in lengths of up to 27 mm. In addition, the quickly reloaded magazine, can drive in nails at a rate of up to 720 per hour - with minimum effort as the DX 351 is the lightest tool in its class.

Multi-talented
Summarising the attractions of the new tool, Al Maani says the DX 351 system is a good combination of speed, comfort and versatility - offers the benefits of light weight, automatic piston return, DW nail “low energy nail”, reliable magazine, small/compact design, low contact force, simple operation and maintenance and wide energy range, which ensures greater comfort, speed, productivity and high versatility on different base material (concrete blocks, concrete and steel).
“No matter whether fastening drywall profiles or clips for suspended ceilings, whether working on steel or concrete; infinite power regulation ensures fasteners are driven with the optimum energy to suit the individual requirements of the job. This opens up a wide range of applications for each class of cartridge. The result: less time lost changing cartridges and fewer types of cartridge require to be kept in stock by users. In addition to the newly-developed special nails, almost the entire range of Hilti DX fasteners can be driven by this tool – with no need to change the piston,” says Al Maani.
“Offering great versatility in fastening applications, the DX 351 conclusively combines optimum performance with maximum working comfort, convenience and ease of use,” he concludes.
