Emirates Iron and Steel Factory (EISF), the UAE’s largest manufacturer top-quality reinforcing steel bars, has been running at full capacity over the past year to meet the soaring demand for rebar in the country.
The company, which has a design capacity of 500,000 tonnes of rebar per year, in fact produced 600,000 tonnes last year on its full capacity to satisfy the demand for the crucial building material in the booming construction market of the UAE.
The company has seen its production rise steadily over the years, from 165,000 tonnes of rebar in 2002, to 385,000 tonnes in 2003, 500,000 in 2004 and 600,000 last year, and sold 100 per cent of its production within the UAE market, says a spokesman for the company.
This fully government-owned factory, which is claimed to be the largest steel factory in the UAE, is strategically located in the newly-developed Industrial City of Abu Dhabi and is equipped with most advanced rolling mill technology to produce rolling bars.
Established in 2001 to meet the growing demand for quality steel products in the UAE’s rapidly expanding construction sector, EISF is the only significant domestic manufacturer of deformed rebars. Its manufacturing process is certified by the UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel as conforming to BS EN ISO 9001-2000 and the factory uses the processes and procedures registered with the authority.
“Using the best available technology and equipment, we produce rebars conforming to British Standard BS4449/97 Grade 640B and American Standard ASTM A615 Grade 60 in a variety of sizes ranging from 10 m to 32 mm, in lengths of 12 m and in bundle of 2 tonnes theoretical weight,” says the spokesman. “Our products are quality tested not only in-house but also by reliable testing firms such as Bodycote and Al-Hoty Stanger Laboratories.”
The factory has its own quality assurance department that ensures high-quality finished products. Its well-equipped laboratory and inspection facilities carry out testing, inspection and classification specified by the quality assurance department. Product identification is maintained throughout the production process until the rebar is dispatched the clients.
“EISF takes pride in being a prime supplier to the local and neighbouring markets of products which can match any international standard and in the short span of time we have gained the reputation of being the best in the business,” the spokesman points out.
Since its inception just five years ago, the company has acquired an impressive portfolio of prestigious projects including the Emirates Palace Hotel and the Corniche Development, both in Abu Dhabi; the Dubai Airport expansion, Dubai Marina Towers and Shangri-La Hotel, all in Dubai; the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha, Qatar, and water and power projects in Sharjah and Fujairah, among others.
