Index 2007 wraps up on a high note

01 December 2007

The 17th Index exhibition, the Middle East’s showcase for the interiors sector, concluded on a high note last month having reset the records for size, numbers, quality and sophistication of exhibitors.

“We have received an extremely positive feedback from exhibitors on the high quality of visitors attending the show this year,” says Kim Willis, exhibition development director of Index, which was organised by dmg world media Dubai.
UAE-based Icon Emirates Flooring celebrated the confirmation of a deal worth Dh2.4 million ($653,000) for a new distributorship in Iran, marking the company’s first foray into that country and a highly successful end to its first year of trading. Icon was also close to confirming a second distributorship worth Dh1.5 million covering the Turkish market.
“We launched the company just over a year ago,” says Icon’s managing director Mansukh Kanbi.
“It’s incredible that in such a short span we have witnessed a tremendous growth. We arrived at the Index seeking to fulfil our expansion strategy through securing new distributorships. However, in addition to our Iranian and Turkish successes, we are close to clinching a potential distributor in Egypt as well,” he adds.
Al Aqili Furnishings (AAF), the largest single exhibitor at the Index 2007 exhibition and one of the region’s leading flooring and interior solutions company, also confirmed two deals during Index worth a combined Dh26 million.
“In addition to the many deals actually signed during Index, we know that there are many more currently in the pipeline as a result of meetings during the show,” says Willis. “Over the coming days, weeks and months, more mega deals will be announced as exhibitors develop the contacts that they have made with the key interior designers, architects, consultants and specifiers from the region, plus those who travelled to the show from Iran, India and Europe as well as other Arab states.”
