A DEDICATED ‘Woodworker Zone’ will be featured for the first time at this year’s Middle East Manufacturing Exhibition (Memex 2010), which takes place this month (November 28 to 30) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The zone will offer the latest in woodworking machinery and tools, in turn providing opportunities to network with professionals in wood processing, woodworking, furniture, carpentry, joinery, cabinet making, interior design and the wooden building material manufacturing sector.
Memex focuses on technology, machinery, tools, and solutions for the industrial and associated industries in the Middle East.
“Metal working, woodworking, surface treatment, machine tools and welding were the top five product sectors exhibited last year and we have now increased the machinery display space by 50 per cent to accommodate further growth this year,” said Binu Pillai, exhibition director of the show.
Organiser IIR Middle East expects 120 companies to participate representing 400 brands from 16 countries. More than 3,000 decision-makers from more than 25 countries have already registered to attend, primarily from the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
“While manufacturing has been hard-hit particularly in the US and Europe, here in the UAE and the wider region, significant investment is being made to expand the manufacturing base,” said Pillai.
The GCC raked in foreign direct investment (FDI) worth more than $39 billion to fund manufacturing projects in 2009, says IIR, quoting an FDI report by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Of this, the UAE attracted $13.7 billion with approximately 95 per cent earmarked for manufacturing projects.
Memex will offer products and services used by the 17 core and support sectors that have been identified by Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030 to attract FDI and attain a sustainable growth economy, the organiser said. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) is the leading partner of Memex 2010.
