Mideast railways in spotlight
Two experts from URS/Scott Wilson delivered a panel speech and a pre-conference master class at the eighth Meed Rail Conference, held recently at the Sheraton Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Nick Field, the global head of project and programme management for URS/Scott Wilson, led one of the master classes entitled ‘Hands-on Project Management for High Speed Rail in the Middle East’.
The second and third days of the conference featured key speakers from regional rail authorities and global companies, including Clive Scholefield, international rail development manager at URS/Scott Wilson, who shared his views about overcoming key challenges in building and operating high-speed lines (HSLs).
Some of the high-speed railway projects URS/Scott Wilson is currently involved with include California HSL, Holland’s HSL Zuid and the first HSL project in the Middle East, the Haramain High-Speed Rail Project in Saudi Arabia.
Tadawul on show at Cityscape
Nikken Sekkei showcased a blueprint of the SR1-billion ($267 million) Tadawul Saudi stock exchange project, a model of energy efficiency, at Cityscape Global held in Dubai, UAE, last month.
One of world’s top architects and leaders in sustainable design, Nikken Sekkei, showcased for the first time the latest impressions of the Tadawul design project, alongside a selection of designs from its extensive international portfolio.
The iconic 42-storey stock exchange building at the heart of King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh will be a state-of-the-art and intelligent building of the future. It will be a model of energy efficiency by incorporating leading energy-saving technologies with the latest Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental design) standards.
Its design incorporates cutting-edge, eco-friendly technology such as a sunlight scooper to introduce natural sunlight and solar shading to help reduce the cooling load.
Stadium design in focus
Mark Fenwick, a senior partner of RFA Fenwick Iribarren Architects – a key designer of the Qatar Foundation’s stadium and sports complex – will make an exclusive presentation on ‘Identifying symbolism in the new architecture of stadium design’, at IQPC’s upcoming Stadium and Venue Design and Development Mena to be held in Doha, Qatar this month (November 7 to 10).
The event will focus on case studies on innovative designs, consider the challenges in guaranteeing sustainability and maintainability of venues and will present industry insider techniques on ensuring the legacy of developments through multi-functionality.
