01 August 2012

AS part of a larger local project team in Bahrain, Syrconsult International has developed preliminary plans for a  major mixed-used park in Muharraq.

To be built over an area of nine to 36 hectares, the Grand Muharraq Entertainment Park will have 60 per cent of open green area with 40 per cent allotted for commercial spaces.

A commercial building complex will serve as the main business district for the BD24-million ($63 million) development.

The park will include a shopping centre, shops, restaurants, cinemas, community buildings to be rented out with function rooms, kitchens, restrooms, an indoor go-kart building with a two-lane mini race track with a travel distance of 662 m, a centre for senior citizens, and a skating rink. It will also have a complete indoor family entertainment facility which includes a bowling alley, an amusement centre, a health club and spa with Jacuzzi and indoor swimming pool, food court and other outdoor recreation components, with landscaped parks in an ‘open to sky’ roof deck.

The park will also include a 923-sq-m prayer room for men on the ground floor level and a 388-sq-m women’s prayer room on the first level.

Additionally, the complex will offer open lawn areas for the elderly, a playground area, a lagoon, concessions space, maintenance or services building, restrooms and 1,650 parking spaces.

Syrconsult International will provide a programme, design review and operation analysis for this complex. The project aims to safeguard and enhance the city’s green spaces, and help create a sustainable network of communities, in addition to encouraging tourism.

The park will serve as the new mixed-urban centre at the heart of Muharraq.
