Airport uses Shell Bitumen solutions
SHELL Bitumen’s solutions were used to upgrade and resurface two runways of Dubai International Airport, the world’s second busiest airport.
The world’s largest bitumen marketing business was approached by Al Naboodah Construction Group in May this year for this challenging project, according to a spokesman for the company, which offers a portfolio of bitumen solutions designed for use in various applications including highways and airports.
“With more flights and larger, more sophisticated aircraft like the Airbus A380, airport runways at major international hubs need to withstand an enormous amount of weight, friction and heat from these larger aircraft,” said the spokesman.
“The A380, for example, weighs almost 400 tonnes, the equivalent of approximately 400 family cars,” he said, adding that Shell Bitumen has provided solutions for more than 100 of the world’s busiest airports.
