Consultants looking to specify a state-of-the-art stormwater drainage system for Qatar’s Lusail Expressway project turned to ACO for a solution, said an official for the leading supplier of water management and stormwater control systems.
The draining system was required to meet the Public Works Authority Ashghal’s stringent requirements and parameters on performance, durability and low maintenance costs, said Sanjaynath Murthy, ACO sales manager for external drainage in the GCC.
The Lusail Expressway will provide a vital connection into the fast-growing Lusail City which is currently under construction. To ensure the efficiency of the system, ACO’s team carried out extensive studies on the stormwater drainage systems being used in Qatar to analyse and understand the local requirements of a durable performing channel drain system.
After a series of technical reviews with the technical team, ACO proposed its Monoblock RD (Road Drain) systems for the Lusail Expressway to the consultants, giving a detailed report on the performance and maintenance aspects of the system
Elaborating on the system, Murthy said: “The one-piece heavy-duty modular trench drain made from polyester resin concrete is designed to address the drainage demands of heavy-duty areas in fast-moving traffic.
“When vehicles move past commercial drainage systems at high speeds, there is a risk of components vibrating loose and causing harm to oncoming traffic and the surrounding environment. ACO Monoblock’s robust single-piece construction eliminates this hazard, making it suitable in applications where the drainage is positioned within the flow of traffic.”
Some of the areas where Monoblock is suitable for include airport pavements, container ports, industrial parks, distribution centres, highways and motorways, underpasses and tunnels, and correctional facilities. It can also be used in high-security applications, as there is no risk of any removable components coming loose during service or unauthorised access to the underlying channel. The system has already been installed successfully in many countries globally.
Murthy said ACO Monoblock RD systems have been well-received and accepted by the consultants in Qatar and have been approved in many key expressways, tunnels and underpasses in Doha. “They have been installed in many projects which are already in use – withstanding all the heavy wear and tear the channel drain systems undergo on a high-speed traffic systems,” he added.
The ACO Group is a world market leader in drainage technology. It creates the drainage solutions needed for tomorrow’s environmental conditions, where the increasingly extreme weather conditions require more complex approaches to surface drainage.
