Saipem, one of the world leaders in drilling services, said it has secured an onshore engineering and construction contract worth $750 million from Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company in Oman.
Duqm Refinery is a joint venture between the Oman Oil Company (OOC), the sultanate’s national oil company, and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI).
The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning under Package Three “Offsite Facilities” for the development of the Duqm Refinery situated near the coast in the north-east of Oman, said Saipem.
Once completed, the refinery will have a capacity of around 230,000 barrels per day, it added.
On the contract win, Saipem CEO Stefano Cao said: “We welcome with particular satisfaction the awarding of this new contract which signals the relaunch of our activities in Oman, a country in which Saipem has operated successfully in the past.”
Saipem has distinctive competences in operations in harsh environments, remote areas and deepwater, he added.
