Otis, one of the world’s largest manufacturers and maintainers of people-moving products including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, has been selected to supply elevators for Kuwait International Airport’s Passenger Terminal 2 by Limak Insaat Kuwait, the contractor on the project.
Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corporation, a leading provider to the aerospace and building systems industries worldwide. In Kuwait, it operates as Otis Elevator Company Kuwait (KCSC), a joint venture company.
As per the deal, Otis will supply 190 elevators for the project. This includes 171 Gen2 units with capacities up to 5,000 kg and 19 heavy-duty elevators with capacities up to 11 tonnes.
The units feature the latest in Otis technologies like the ReGen Drive, Gen2 flat-coated steel belts and Pulse monitoring systems.
The scope of work includes setting up of all elevators within the new airport terminal by 2022.
“The new passenger terminal in Kuwait will be one of the region’s biggest infrastructure projects, and we’re extremely proud to be part of this landmark project,” remarked Maged Nagib, the vice-president and managing director of Otis Middle East.
The new passenger terminal building will significantly enhance the status of the airport as the gateway to Kuwait. With an increased passenger capacity, it is set to become a new regional air hub.
Once completed, the new T2 building, which will spread across a 708,000-sq-m area, aims to handle a passenger capacity of 25 million per annum.
