Tenders are to be floated for the Dh20 million ($5.45 million) Abu Dhabi Al Jazeera Hospital expansion project.
The Central Hospital will be demolished in eight months to create space for the expansion, said a top official.
The project will include an outpatient clinic, emergency unit, and a dialysis and kidney centre.
The number of beds at Al Jazeera Hospital will also increase from 200 to 425, said Mohammed Butti Al Qubaisi, director of the office of Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and chairman of the General Authority for Health Services.
The existing dialysis centre at the Central Hospital will be replaced by a more advanced centre, increasing the capacity from 20 dialysis units to 40.
