Carl Stahl returns with new systems

01 April 2008

Carl Stahl, a leading manufacturer of wire ropes and lifting technology, will be returning to gulfBID 2008 to promote its architectural cable system and mesh as well as its range of lifting equipment for the construction industry in the Gulf.

“We have participated in last year’s gulfBid, where we found it to be a good platform to spread awareness of our brand name in the Gulf countries. We also met with a number of clients from Qatar and Saudi Arabia,” says François Saab, general manager of Carl Stahl Middle East branch in Dubai in the UAE.
“The building construction sector in Bahrain looks very promising as we feel the clients here are looking for technologically superior products such as ours,” he adds.
The Germany-headquartered company has seen a growth in demand for its services and hence has embarked upon expansion plans for the region.
“We will soon be shifting to a bigger workshop in Dubai where we will be able to stock equipment such as lifting gear and cable for cranes. This investment will enable Carl Stahl to meet further requirements and ensure quick deliveries to our Gulf customers. In view of the increased demand for our services, we also have plans to establish an office in Abu Dhabi in the near future,’ he says.
Founded in 1880 in Germany, Carl Stahl has been paving the way in lightweight construction architecture for many years with the manufacture of innovative equipment for the mechanical engineering, construction and the shipbuilding sectors. The company’s product portfolio include the development and design of the X-Tend (the original), a flexible stainless steel cable mesh for architectural purposes; I-Sys (Inox-Systems), a many-sided stainless steel cable range; PosiLock, a cable suspension system for shopfittings; and Cable concept – elastic X-Tend furniture for indoor and outdoor projects.
“The X-Tend stainless steel cable mesh, which was conceptualised in 1990, has opened up a whole new world of spatial possibilities using cables and is the result of a creative partnership with designer Thomas Ferwagner. The intelligent combination of stainless steel cables and ferrules is the key to a range of shapes for engineered cable mesh constructions,” says a spokesman for the company. “The opposing curvature of the cables permits light and transparent three-dimensional structures that are capable of extremely high load capacity. Since its high-grade stainless steel guarantees durability, it is used in many building structures such as balustrades, fall protection, façades, landing pads, designs and enclosures across the world.”
“This is a highly flexible product for indoor and outdoor applications to cover simple areas as well as three-dimensional structures. Reminiscent of a net yet with the strength of stainless steel, it is capable of forming and retaining complex shapes even under high pressure. X-Tend can be used to create barriers or ceilings as well as bridge construction, as the flexible net system can adjust to the thermal and mechanical movements required,” he adds.
I-Sys is an innovative stainless steel cable system used for bridge building, tensile applications, structural and sky frames; architecture and decoration, interior design, balustrading, landscaping and green facades.
Carl Stahl Middle East has supplied its products to many impressive projects across the Gulf. In the UAE, its I-Sys system has been used in the construction of the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi Trade Centre and the Abu Dhabi Electric Water Authority (Adwea), Dubai Airport, Dubai Islamic Bank, Dubai Festival City, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre and the Burj Dubai as well as the Sharjah World Trade and Expo Centre and the Sharjah Aquarium.
Some of the other GCC projects that have used its I-Sys system include the Al Sultan resort, Motorcycle Grand Prix Race Track and the Asian Games project in Qatar; Al Amoudi project, Al Khayma Centre and Dallah Hospital Expansion in Saudi Arabia; as well as the Movenpick Hotel and the Bahrain World Trade Centre in Bahrain.
The X-Tend original stainless steel cable mesh has been supplied to various projects in the UAE such as Dubai Grand Hyatt Hotel, Global Village (spiral staircase), the helipad (safety net) at the Burj Al Arab, Snowdome (architectural and safety) at the Mall of the Emirates and the Sharjah World Trade and Expo Centre; as well as in Kuwait on a helipad (safety net) at Al Maidan Hospital  among other projects in the Middle East. Carl Stahl stand is 1A 64 at gulfBID 2008.
