Rezayat puts FBECR on show

01 April 2008

Rezayat Protective Coating Company, a leading Saudi Arabia-based manufacturer of fusion-bonded epoxy coated rebar (FBECR), is returning to gulfBID 2008 in a bid to increase awareness of its products in the market and attract an audience including civil/structural engineers and consultants.

“Business is excellent for us at the moment and we have expanded our market, with better capacity utilization over the last year,” says Riyadh S Al Homoud, general manager of the company. “Prospects are bright in the GCC’s construction industry with Saudi Arabia continuing to be our main market in the region.”
Rezayat Protective Coating Company, also known as Rezayat Procoat, specialises in FBECR in diameters ranging from 8 mm to 40 mm – using black bars from Sabic’s (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) Hadeed – used in concrete reinforcement in construction projects such as buildings, highway bridges, culverts, and tunnels, among others.
Headquartered in Al Khobar in the Eastern Province with a branch office in Jeddah, the company is fully owned by the Rezayat Group of Companies, and is a member of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute. Staffed with around 150 employees, the company enjoys an annual turnover of around SR200 million ($53.3 million).
The company’s factory, commissioned in December 1992, is located in the Second Industrial Area of Dammam, and has the capacity to produce 80,000 tonnes of FBECR a year. It also has the capability to perform the fabrication (cut and bend) of coated steel bars in accordance with original structural drawings.
“Epoxy coating is applied to ASTM A 775 standards to deformed rebar, to protect them from corrosion that is prevalent in an aggressive, saline environment such as the Middle East. This gives value addition by increasing the life of structures and avoiding costly maintenance. In the coating process, the company adheres to strict quality control measures to ensure uncompromising quality,” explains a company spokesman.
Fusion bonded epoxy coating is applied with process control, ensuring a pinhole free and continuous coating surface and uniform film thickness. The epoxy film thus formed acts as a barrier protecting rebar from corrosion forming agents.
“The best advantage of coated epoxy powder film is that it eliminates contact between the steel bars and corrosion agents that exist in the surrounding environment such as moisture, chloride and industrial chemicals, which ultimately will protect the steel from corrosion and extend the life time of structures/buildings,” the spokesman adds.
Steel rebar are inspected continuously from the receipt of black bars to the dispatch of coated or finished products. Rebar are blast-cleaned for surface purity and coating adhesion.
“We provide training to site personnel for proper handling and care of coated rebar, as it is important to ensure that there is no damage to the coating during placing or fixing. We supply coated tie wire and epoxy patch repair kit along with our rebar for on-site use and coated wire mesh is now added to our range of products. Our in-house dedicated ‘cut and bend’ facility ensures product quality while handling and the site contractor personnel are given a ready-to-fix material with the added benefit of on-site efficiency. We always keep abreast with the latest technological developments in the area and update our product quality and performance,” he adds.
Rezayat also has a continuous quality monitoring system for all raw materials and other consumable supplies to ensure that it meets the latest technology and mandatory local and government regulations, the spokesman points out.
The ISO 9001:2000-certified company is an approved supplier of FBECR to several large companies in Saudi Arabia such as Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), the Saline Water Conversion (SWCC), Saudi Electric Company (SEC) and the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu.
It is currently supplying epoxy coated rebar to a number of industry projects including Tasnee, Sharq’s third expansion, Saudi Kayan and Jana Hassad developments.
Rezayat coated rebar has been used widely throughout the kingdom and overseas on several major industrial and commercial projects.
Major Saudi projects that have used its coated rebar include the Ghazlan Power Plant, Sabic headquarters, Yanbu desalination plant, the Yanbu PTA aromatics plant, Abqaiq wastewater treatment plant, Dhahran International Exhibition Centre, Shaybah oilfield infrastructure and pipeline project, Ministry of Defence building in Riyadh, Dar Al Youm building in Dammam, Ras Tanura refinery (upgrade), Saudi Steel Pipe’s plant expansion, Aramco substation in Ras Tanura, Kemya’s LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) plant in Jubail, the Prince Nayif Commercial Building, Middle East Power Company in Dammam and the ABG School in Qatif. Overseas, Rezayat coated rebar has been used at the US embassy in the Philippines, Qatar embassy in Sudan, Port of Aden in Yemen and Kuwait University in Shuwaikh.
The company’s stand number at gulfBID is 1A24.
